+What's the difference between Cloud and Perpetual?
Cloud is a $9/mo subscription with the plugin, the AI and updates included — nothing to set up. Perpetual is a $79 one-time purchase of the plugin alone: you connect an AI you already have (your ChatGPT subscription, a free Gemini key or a Claude API key), or use free offline AI on your computer. Cloud is for editors who want to subscribe and cut. Perpetual is for editors who already pay for AI and don't want another subscription.
+What does "use your own AI" mean (Perpetual)?
Verbatim needs an AI to search your transcripts and build cuts. On Perpetual you connect one yourself, once, inside the plugin:
- ChatGPT Plus or Pro — uses the ChatGPT subscription you already pay for. A one-time setup in Terminal.
- Google Gemini — a free key from Google; takes about a minute.
- Claude — an API key from Anthropic, billed per use. A regular Claude Pro subscription can't be connected.
- Offline on your computer (Ollama) — free, no account, and nothing leaves the machine. Slower than the others.
The install page walks through each. Rather skip all that? Cloud has the AI built in.
+What happens if I use the whole month's allowance?
The plugin shows how much of the month's AI allowance you've used and warns you when 20% is left. If you run out, AI rough cuts pause and AI search slows down until the 1st — or add 60% more for $5, which never expires. Long projects and AI refines use more of the allowance than short ones; simple edits like shortening a cut use none. Running a bigger workload? +Why $79 once for Perpetual instead of always-subscription?
Editors are subscription-fatigued. If you already pay for ChatGPT or another AI every month, the last thing you want is another monthly bill stacked on top. Verbatim Perpetual is a tool you own — like the plugins from Boris FX, Red Giant, and the rest. We make money when you choose to subscribe to Cloud later for convenience, not by charging rent every month.
+How does the trial work?
The 14-day free trial is on Cloud. Checkout asks for a card, but nothing is charged during the 14 days. Cancel any time before the trial ends and you pay nothing; keep it and the $9/month subscription starts on day 15. Your settings, AI keys, and project data stay put — nothing to reinstall if you subscribe later. (Perpetual doesn't have a trial — it has a 14-day refund instead.)
+Can I get a refund?
Yes. For Perpetual: email support@cinelore.app within 14 days of purchase, no questions. For Cloud: cancel any time from your account — you're billed for the current month and that's it. Refunds process in 3-5 business days through Lemon Squeezy.
